Okkervil River :: The New Yorker

tomer :: the indie-rock band Okkervil River had a show at the Bowery Ballroom a few weeks back and the New Yorker was looking for a ‘live’ image of the band playing on stage. after digging around the web for visuals and looking at the pics sent by the AD I’ve organized a horizontal composition basing the drawing on some of these visuals.

At this point the composition had to be reorganized to fit a shorter wider proportions.

  1. NIcely done. Great color combos as usual. I like the spotting of the 'blacks' too ,especially the face that's in complete shadow.

i can't decide if the final illustration

  3. It's interesting seeing how the stylization comes to pass after having sketched more realistically.

It's like you put your Hanuka filter on and then the world goes crazy!

    Nice process.

Beautiful piece! Though I find it curious that you changed both guitarists from being right handed in the photos to being left handed in the illustration. Nitpicks aside, great illustration!

  6. great job of compiling the figures together. i personally like the composition of the first sketch better. it's a bummer that it had to be resized.

  7. Great work. I have been a fan since I saw your work in the SVA illustration portfolio book my first year there. The one with superman on the cover. Nice to see you have a blog.
