SKy magazine :: office psychodrama

asaf :: this was done for Sky magazine about how conniving and caddy women can be when it comes to moving up in the business world. the AD was aiming for some sort of psychodrama between two women in the office/cubicle setting.

three ideas came to mind for depicting the confrontation between women.

they went for the voodoo solution, but asked for a small modification - make the foreground lady older and mean, which is what I did.

after the final was sent I was asked to tune down the old lady's expression. I guess I got carried away.

  1. your initial drawing for the voodoo angle was just perfect. the woman walking away carrying the heavy work papers looks like the beautiful actress Bridget Moynahan, only making the drawing that more perfect :)
    And the expression on the lady in the foreground is just right... almost as if she is whispering something cruel while smiling. brilliant.

  3. Nice one.

    Bit of a stylistic departure for you with 'colored' linework.

  5. Nice!! Seems like you work out your thumbnails quite a bit. Love the color scheme of the final piece. I like the toned down face because it makes it more subtle but still very strong. Great as always!

    Those first and third sketches are just amazing. I think the Art Director picked the right idea though. But the sketches are so damn good. I love 'em!!

  7. well, you all said it in different words, and I agree it was one of those cases that somewhere on the highway to deadline the creative energy went wild, but not exactly at the right timing.

    hm, it loses something for me, with the older woman - becomes something about competing with the younger generation and less focused on just the day to day throat cutting...but, of course what do I know! (not having the article handy)...I do alwasy like it when the ideas catch up on the second read tho...nice one!
