an Unholy Trinity :: The Un-Men 2 cover

tomer :: the second cover for this upcoming Vertigo title focuses on the three main players of the story: Kilcrop, the black albino FBI agent; Cranius, the brian-on-a-hand mad genius (often supported by a headless surgeon body); and Niko, the one armed winged beauty.
Cranius, who seems to be one step ahead of everyone and with the worst motivations in mind, requires a special place in this triangle. there is a scene in the book where he is operating on someone and the idea of using the surgical lights as a halo was concidered as an apparatus to highlight him.
while drawing the sketch, another halo, if negative, became apparent as the headless surgeon neckline and was used to highlight one of the implants Cranius is using on his patient/victim.

born to kill :: born to die

asaf :: this image was created for a newspaper in Israel.
the article talks about the sad reality of parents preparing themselves mentally for the possibility they will loose their child in the ongoing conflict in the middle east.
the grieving starts at the moment the doctor announces they have a boy during the ultrasound scan, and continues until the child finally leaves for his mandatory 3 years army service at 18.

JOIN! :: booting up

tomer :: the Progressive cover story "The Army Goes On Spring Break" describes a disjointed and surreal situation where army recruiters are "trying to entice half-naked eighteen to twenty-four-year-olds to look up from their guzzling, beanbag tossing, and foot ball throwing for a moment and contemplate a thrilling tour of duty or two in a military uniform."
beyond the obvious contrast between aggressive army marketing (it's a multimillion dollar mission, designed with the help of a NY based ad agency) and tipsy college kids, the scene echoes a battlefield's aftermath.

a print of this cover in now available at Monomyth.
