behind the curtain :: final

tomer :: my memory of The wizard of Oz movie is a garish oversaturated train wreck of colors. my first instinct for this image however was to create something that felt aged and weathered and washed. but it clashed with the underlining premise of describing current events happening right now. once the aged look was tossed I went back to the memory I had of the film: super saturated, overly vital, in your face bad taste posing as a fairy tale.

    I love how garish the colors are. its very different from your usual work in that respect, because your colors tend to be much more subtle. I think the "tackiness" really helps support the topic. Im going to go buy it just for the cover.

    There's no place like home, there's no place like home....especially when you've just downed a nasty shot of some horrible mixture in a little bar in Camden Town!

    Nice work Tom and love the blog,

    Its a really great blog - i just found the blog and in a small way i just found myself.
    I once lost myself in a small bar in camden - I cant say exactly when but at some point my guts spilt onto the pavement and took part of my soul withit. I've wandered in the interim..searching..but not finding..looking but not seeing...and then it happened - i opened a small inconspicous door and found your blog, and lying there slap bang in the middle of the room, illuminated by spotlights, accompanied by a brass band was my long lost slice of soul, with a sprinkling of paprika.....so thanks

  6. charrow- i agree regarding the tackiness, sometimes pretty and ugly switch places quite easily, like everything 80's was a big no-no during the 90's and now anything 80's is hyper hip. it's all perspective.

    alberije- hey i saw the pages you colored of Corben's art! great stuff.

    rim- tnx! :)

    james k- you mean abstinence isn't a health juice?! thanks for stopping by ;)

    Sammy- like a dog returns to it's vomit, we're truly delighted that you found us and decided to stay. it's a pleasure and an honor, we might keep your soul for future reference though, if that's cool.
