That one is by far my favorite. It's got those Hokusai colors but it's a heroic depiction of Americans at war with Japan. Concept aside though I just feel like I can jump into that one. It's not melodramatic (I think the first two come off that way) but it's exciting and perilous all the same, probably in part because of the great compositional choice. I might steal that idea soon... Anyway, so rad.Matt Cloughhttp://www.mattclough.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19040294.post-77674434570042565282010-03-13T11:44:42.503-08:002010-03-13T11:44:42.503-08:00Love em all!! The green color scheme int he third highlights the violence in the dead soldier's blood in a way that the others don't. The yellow one makes me focus on the closest soldier, while the green makes me far more aware of the depth of field of the piece.inkdestroyedmybrushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09037083364689982443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19040294.post-2504704009586510462010-03-12T10:55:52.470-08:002010-03-12T10:55:52.470-08:00Actually... by #1 I meant the first one after your...Actually... by #1 I meant the first one after your comment, ie the naturally coloured one. I kind of assumed that's what everyone else meant too? There is a certain amount of confusion about the composition (quite deliberate I assume!) - the odd angle, the bomb blasts and the truncated bodies - and I think the illo definitely benefits from the use of a more natural colour scheme, which helps define the seperate elements.Mauricehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13956655925713766022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19040294.post-27666119342455137102010-03-12T08:07:06.392-08:002010-03-12T08:07:06.392-08:00thanks for the feedback... i sense a strong leanin...thanks for the feedback... i sense a strong leaning towards the yellow, which was also my brother's favorite. the minority who liked the red is in line and the NYer's choice (before they went more photographic). personally i think the blue one works best-- it's an aesthetic invasion of a western sensibility into an Asian one, or at least that's what i was going for.

tTROPICAL TOXIChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03643498486458730598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19040294.post-74296876633001215902010-03-12T06:21:29.170-08:002010-03-12T06:21:29.170-08:00Yeah, I'm with everyone on the Wyeth-y first o...Yeah, I'm with everyone on the Wyeth-y first one (and grateful that there's always the internets to get to see it when printing fails.)OWEN FREEMANhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04578597856475682356noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19040294.post-51114288489060699402010-03-12T05:58:50.063-08:002010-03-12T05:58:50.063-08:00The second one seems the most appealing to me.Comp...The second one seems the most appealing to me.Composition is really dynamic, like it!Anna Gurjevahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18352145468116177108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19040294.post-66623802850370811382010-03-11T22:49:52.691-08:002010-03-11T22:49:52.691-08:00Why on earth didn't that see print?
